EVERETT – An Everett man who took advantage of a new widow earlier this year was sentenced to six months in the county jail for impersonating an Everett firefighter.
Jerame James Lee, 22, showed up on the woman’s doorstep the day after her husband died in February – after firefighters and paramedics had come to her house to try and save her husband.
Lee told her he was a fire inspector and needed to take photos because a firefighter had been hurt in the house the previous day. He was not associated with the department.
Lee made several more trips to the widow’s home to take more photos and to check her husband’s medications, including a visit on the day of her husband’s funeral. On one visit, he tried to sell her a fire alarm system, prosecutors said.
The woman told police that over time she noticed someone had stolen about $160 and a narcotic pain medication she was taking for cancer.
Edmonds: Crash debris washes up on beaches
Debris from an Airlift Northwest medical helicopter that crashed off Edmonds Sept. 29 has begun washing up on the Olympic Peninsula and Whidbey Island.
The crash killed pilot Steve Smith of Whidbey Island and two Seattle nurses.
Earlier this week, an equipment bag washed up on a beach near Port Townsend, and on Wednesday small pieces of the helicopter washed up on Whidbey Island, Edmonds police reported.
Citizens who believe they have found pieces of the aircraft can leave them in place and report the finding, or turn the items over to their local police or sheriff’s office, Edmonds police said.
If anyone believes they have found human remains, they should immediately contact their local law enforcement agency.
