EVERETT — A 78-year-old man who was in the back of an ambulance when it crashed has died at the hospital, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Frank E. Costa, of Snohomish, was being transported in an ambulance on Wednesday to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. It was going eastbound on Highway 526 near Evergreen Way just after 10 a.m. when the driver tried to swerve around another vehicle to avoid a collision and hit a guardrail, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.
Costa and a medic in back with him were injured in the crash. The medic suffered minor injuries and was expected to survive, Snell said.
The medical examiner’s office confirmed that Costa died from blunt-force injuries.
Detectives with Everett’s Traffic Safety Unit are investigating.
