An 18-year-old Seattle woman says she went on a date April 1 and was given a date-rape drug that led to beatings and sexual assaults while being held captive at a south Everett house.
Now, one of two men accused of second-degree rape in the case, Alex Undrae Paul Moore, 23, of Renton is on trial in Snohomish County Superior Court.
At one point during the hours-long captivity in the house, the woman managed to get Moore’s cellphone and call her mother.
"They tell me they’re going to kill me," deputy prosecutor Craig Matheson quoted the woman as saying during his opening statements to the jury.
He said the woman, who was afraid she might never see her parents again, told her mother, "Tell Daddy I love him, too."
The woman spent much of Wednesday on the witness stand, identifying Moore as one of the men who participated in holding her against her will, hit her in the face with the palm of his hand and forced her to engage in oral sex with him.
Defense lawyer Steve Garvey said by the end of the trial the jury will come to believe that the woman willingly went to the house in the 9500 block of Sharon Drive. He also told jurors they will be convinced that the woman had consensual sex with Moore.
The date was with a young man identified only as Lorenz. Matheson said Lorenz picked her up in southeast Seattle and stopped at a convenience store, where he mixed her soft drink with alcohol and a drug commonly known as a date-rape drug because of its ability to incapacitate.
The woman said she quickly became dizzy, and the concoction appeared to make her drunk.
After two more stops, Lorenz turned her over to several other people, who drove her to the south Everett address.
She testified she blanked out, and when she awoke in a bedroom, a man was on top of her having sex. She also testified that a second man and Moore forced her to have oral sex with them.
There were several other people in the house at the time, and none of them would help her, she told jurors, Several times, she tried to leave the house but was forced back inside.
One of those who forced her back and threatened to kill her was Michael Anthony Linear, 21, of Everett, she testified. Linear is awaiting trial on second-degree rape charges in connection with the incident.
Matheson said the woman was afraid she would be killed if she did not comply, so she engaged in the oral sex with Moore.
Before a woman drove her home, she was made to take a shower. The victim was able to keep from washing portions of her body, and authorities found genetic evidence linking Moore to having sex with her.
In her testimony, the woman said she could not recall a lot of what happened because she was drugged.
Matheson said some of the people in the house have not been identified.
