ISSAQUAH — A 53-year-old Maple Valley man is dead after his vehicle was struck by a car that had been chased by deputies.
The Seattle Times reported that a deputy began chasing the car, a black Kia, Tuesday morning because it was driving fast and erratically on Highway 18. The deputy broke off the pursuit when the 27-year-old suspect failed to stop and exited the highway.
Minutes later, sheriff’s officers came upon the crash scene. King County sheriff’s spokesman Jim Burke said it appeared the suspect’s car had veered into oncoming traffic, striking another vehicle head-on.
The Kia’s driver suffered minor injuries. Burke said deputies deployed a Taser when he resisted arrest. In the suspect’s car, deputies found an infant, who was taken to a hospital for observation.
