Three Snohomish County men will spend years in prison and forfeit their homes, cars and cash after admitting they grew nearly 1,000 marijuana plants.
Joshua C. Stansberry, 29, and brothers Thomas L. McCarty, 32, and Shawn McCarty, 28, were sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Seattle. The three earlier had pleaded guilty to federal drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
The case was investigated by the Snohomish Regional Drug Task Force, which in September 2003 conducted a series of raids at homes in Arlington, Monroe and Duvall. Investigators found high-quality pot crops with an estimated value of $1.75 million.
Stansberry pleaded guilty to growing marijuana and money laundering. The McCarty brothers pleaded guilty to conspiracy to grow marijuana and conspiracy to engage in money laundering.
Each agreed to forfeit houses that were used for drug trafficking or purchased with drug money. The men also did not contest the seizure of more than $118,000 in cash, plus trucks, a motorcycle, snowmobile and utility trailer.
Federal prosecutors took the case because of the size and scope of the drug operation, which occurred in Snohomish and King counties. The money seized will be used to target Snohomish County drug traffickers, task force Sgt. John Flood said.
