MARYSVILLE – For months, Marysville Planning Commission members have overhauled the city’s comprehensive plan, Critical Areas Ordinance and development regulations.
Now, the commission is taking its draft revisions to get residents’ responses before public hearings March 15-16.
The meetings are scattered around the city to focus on issues pertinent to those neighborhoods.
The updates include new land-use and zoning designations for neighborhoods, a new sub-area plan for the city’s downtown, and revisions of school and traffic impact fees.
At the conclusion of the public meetings and hearings, the commission will make final recommendations for presentation to the City Council, city planning and community development director Gloria Hirashima said. City officials hope to adopt the updates by April.
Part of the public hearing process will be to assign regular zoning in the Lakewood area, which the city just annexed. That’s a long-awaited event for developers eager to begin new projects in the area, Hirashima said.
“We’re responding to some of the concerns people have up there so we don’t miss any opportunities,” she said. “The land is ready – the infrastructure, zoning, etc.”
City officials have enhanced the city’s water, sewer and storm-water utilities in an effort to attract economic and residential development, particularly in the city’s north end.
Hirashima’s staff has streamlined the city’s permitting process to help developers get their projects through the system.
The city has completed its 10-year update on the comprehensive plan, along with development regulations and an environmental impact statement on the proposed actions. The impact statement is subject to a 60-day comment period. Written comments may be submitted to the city’s Community Development Department, 80 Columbia Ave., Marysville, WA 98270, through March 14.
Documents are available on the city’s Web site at http://ci.marysville.wa.us.
