MARYSVILLE — Nancy LaMont wants to paint Marysville purple.
She wants as many people as possible wearing purple on Fridays in May. She hopes people will display something purple throughout the month in their yards, business windows and vehicles.
“We are also looking for anyone with purple cars, purple motorcycles, purple bikes, purple walkers — get the idea?” she said.
The idea is to raise as much awareness as possible for the Relay For Life walk-run for cancer June 13 and 14 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
The Relay for Life takes place every year in many locales throughout Snohomish County and the nation to raise awareness and money to fight cancer. Purple is the event’s adopted color.
LaMont, who is in remission from cancer, is in charge of publicity for this year’s effort. She’s calling it “Paint the Town Purple 2009.”
LaMont hopes to organize a weekend event as part of the run-up to the relay, to have people with purple clothing, cars and anything else get out on State Avenue, on a day yet to be determined. Still, she believes a concerted effort over time is the key to drawing attention to the event.
“If we drag it out for four weeks, they’re going to know something’s up in this town,” LaMont said. “I don’t do anything small.”
