MARYSVILLE — This Friday, the city will have a new park.
Shasta Ridge Park at 3907 82nd Ave. NE in the Whiskey Ridge area is scheduled to be dedicated at 1 p.m. Friday.
Belmark Homes, a Marysville developer building homes in the area, donated the 1½ acre parcel to the city for public use.
The park has open space, a basketball court that’s also striped for tennis, and structures for play and fitness, Marysville parks director Jim Ballew said. Restrooms have been built and are expected to be operational soon.
The city required Belmark to provide some type of recreational opportunity in the area as a condition of the development, Ballew said. The agreement, however, didn’t specify the size or type.
City officials designed the park, Ballew said. He estimated the value of the land with improvements at $407,000.
The park is the second one Belmark has donated to the city. Parkside Way Park at 7729 64th Place NE, also 1½ acres, opened in 2005.
The new park at Shasta Ridge helps fill a need in that part of the city, Ballew said.
“There are no park facilities there,” he said.
