The Marysville School District honored seven education advocates at an annual luncheon hosted by the Washington Association of School Administrators. The event gives school districts a bigger stage on which to recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to elementary and secondary education.
Teachers Kacee Kukull and Bob Stoddard received the Washington Student Leadership Award for their work on the Makers Space at Cedarcrest Middle School.
Amy, Ryan, Ray, Deanna and Alex of the Sheldon family were also honored with the Community Leadership Award. Through their nonprofit Leah’s Dream Foundation, they donated $45,000 to build an inclusive play structure at Kellogg Marsh Elementary School. Their efforts also funded training for staff and counselors on ways to assist students with autism or physical limitations communicate their wants and needs to others.
“Not a day goes by where you don’t see one or more members of the Sheldon family at a Marysville school, coordinating a family night with the Native Education or Special Education departments, helping lead a parent meeting, working directly to support a student, or cheering on a Marysville athletic team, not to mention their support of the district’s levy efforts,” wrote Emily Wicks, a district spokeswoman.
