SEATTLE — A Marysville man was sentenced today to spend the next three years in prison for peddling prescription painkillers stolen from area pharmacies.
Robert L. Calkins, 25, was arrested in 2005 outside a Mukilteo motel room. During a search of his backpack, police discovered more than 4,000 pills of oxycodone, hydrocodone and methadone, all strong prescription drugs. Calkins was selling the drugs and handing them out to other drug dealers to sell, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle.
Calkins received the drugs from people operating a pharmacy burglary ring in Marysville, authorities said.
He was convicted of trafficking in pharmaceutical controlled substances in U.S. District Court in Seattle. Prescription drug abuse is on the rise and police have seen a spike in prescription forgery and pharmacy robberies and burglaries.
