MARYSVILLE — A driver struck and killed a Marysville man with his car Wednesday morning as the man crossed I-5 in Seattle, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Around 12:45 a.m., the man’s car was disabled with “significant tire and rim damage,” on the right shoulder of northbound I-5 near the Mercer Street exit, according to the state patrol.
The man, 22, exited his car and tried to cross all lanes of the freeway to get to the left shoulder, troopers said. An oncoming Lexus, driven by a Tacoma man, 49, struck the pedestrian, who died at the scene.
The deceased has been identified as Esteban Cortes, of Marysville, according to troopers.
The driver was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, troopers said. His two other passengers, 19 and 34, were not injured.
All northbound lanes at Mercer Street were closed for about four hours Wednesday morning while troopers investigated. Lanes reopened around 4:30 a.m.
