MARYSVILLE — Vehicle break-ins and thefts continue to plague Marysville as police arrested five adults and two juveniles over two days this week while investigating vehicle prowls and a stolen vehicle.
On Thursday, a city officer tried to stop a vehicle in the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue, but the driver fled, leading to a pursuit on I-5 northbound to Arlington, then back through Marysville and onto the Tulalip Reservation, Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said.
The chase came to an end when a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy brought the fleeing vehicle to a halt on Marine Drive. Marysville police, assisted by the deputy and Tulalip tribal police, arrested two men, ages 20 and 27. The driver was booked into the Snohomish County Jail on investigation of possession of a stolen vehicle and felony eluding. The passenger was released pending review of the case by a county prosecutor.
Less than two hours later, at about 1:30 a.m., a homeowner in the 6100 block of 54th Drive reported to police that he had chased away three teen-age boys who were looking through his vehicle, Lamoureux said. About 45 minutes later, an officer spotted three youths on foot near I-5 and Fourth Street. An 18-year-old and two boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested.
The 18-year-old was booked into the Marysville jail on investigation of attempted vehicle prowl and the boys were booked on the same allegation at the Denney Juvenile Justice Center.
Finally, on Jan. 9 at 11:15 p.m., a resident in the 7500 block of 49th Drive held a suspected car thief at gunpoint until police arrived.
The resident claimed he caught the man going through a neighbor’s vehicle, Lamoureux said. Police arrested the 20-year-old, who had a two-way radio in his possession. His alleged accomplice drove by, and police stopped him. That man, 21, also had a two-way radio.
Both were booked into the Marysville jail on investigation of vehicle prowl, Lamoureux said.
