MARYSVILLE – The Marysville police and parks departments are requesting the public’s assistance in helping to stop recurring vandalism at the Strawberry Fields Sports Complex in the 6100 block of 152nd Street NE.
Recently, the park has been hit by vandals who have broken into kiosks, starting a fire in one, broken locks, cut a flagpole rope, torn apart soccer goal nets and carved graffiti into wooden structures.
The vandalism is occurring after Strawberry Fields has closed for the night.
Though police have added an extra watch on the park in hopes of catching vandals, the department is seeking help from residents.
“Patrolling the city’s parks is a routine part of our patrol operations,” police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said. “But the more eyes the better.”
Residents who observe people in the park after closing hours are asked to call 911 to have an officer respond.
The vandalism to the park is frustrating parks department director Jim Ballew.
“In the long run, it affects the entire community,” he said. “The damage to the park isn’t anything that can’t be repaired. The unfortunate part is, the repairs cost money, and that money could certainly be used to enhance the parks or establish new programs for parks users.”
