MARYSVILLE – Marysville police are warning residents that solicitors claiming to be raising money for the department are involved in a scam.
A man reported that his wife had gotten a phone call from someone claiming to be collecting donations for the police department. She noticed there were a lot of loud voices in the background. They also found the caller ID indicated it was an out of area call.
The Marysville Police Department does not use telephone solicitors, said Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux. Any donations the police department is seeking would be advertised through pamphlets or local newspapers, he said.
If you get a call, ask where you can send a donation. That may generate an address that you can report to police at 360-651-5050.
Arlington
Trailer fire: A fire late Thursday night destroyed an Airstream trailer at Cuz Concrete Products, doing about $20,000 in damage.
Investigators determined the fire was an accident, probably caused by an electrical light circuit that overheated or shorted out.
When the Arlington Fire Department arrived shortly after 10:30 p.m., the trailer was already engulfed in flames, said chief Mike Ganz. One employee escaped unharmed.
The crews quickly worked on preventing the fire from spreading to a building near the trailer. Twenty minutes later, the Airstream was destroyed but the office building was saved.
“Their quick actions and correct priorities really saved this building,” Ganz said.
