MARYSVILLE — A sewer extension in north Marysville will aid residents and businesses that now use septic systems, as well as boost economic development along 116th Street NE east of I-5.
Among the projects are a 17-acre retail center planned on the north side of 116th by White-Leasure Development Co. of Boise, Idaho, which is beginning work on a 92,000-square-foot WinCo Foods supermarket and other stores.
Construction began last spring on the $679,000 project to extend the sewer main along State Avenue between 100th and 116th streets. The line will connect with an existing sewer trunk at 113th Street NE, city public works project manager Pat Gruenhagen said.
Rodarte Construction of Auburn is installing the sewer link under the northbound lane of State Avenue, and traffic has been reduced to one lane, with flaggers controlling the direction. The work is expected to be finished in about two months.
The project cost is being paid for by city utility fees. The city will recover the money as homes and businesses connect to the sewer line.
"The city has a comprehensive sewer plan, and this was one piece that needs to be completed," Gruenhagen said. "This is going to allow us to take the sewer east across the tracks and up 116th and serve the developments along the way."
That project will begin in three to four months, he said.
