EVERETT – Five Marysville teenagers were arrested in Everett on Thursday night in connection with gang-related graffiti, police said.
An officer spotted the teens, all boys ages 14-17, around 10:30 in an alley near the 1500 block of Broadway, Everett police Sgt. Robert Goetz said.
The officer believed it was suspicious that the teens were out after 10 p.m. on a school night, Goetz said. When the officer approached the group, they started to run and one of them dropped a can of spray paint.
It took officers about 30 minutes to take all five teenagers into custody. Through investigation, the officers believe the graffiti was gang-related.
Four of the teenagers were booked into the Denney Juvenile Justice Center. The youngest boy, 14, was released to his father, Goetz said.
Marysville schools are on vacation this week.
Earlier in the week, Arlington police began investigating more than 15 graffiti taggings believed to have been painted early Tuesday. Arlington police said the graffiti there was not gang related.
