MARYSVILLE — A suspected car thief outran the cops, but he couldn’t escape downtown Marysville traffic on a Thursday afternoon.
Police spotted a stolen 1994 Honda Accord about 4:15 p.m. on State Avenue.
Officers lost sight of the Honda but picked up the trail a short time later.
Unwilling to stop for police, the driver sped off and led officers on a chase through downtown.
Police called off the pursuit as traffic bogged down on Fourth Avenue, Marysville Cmdr. Ralph Krusey said.
The suspected car thief kept driving and tried to maneuver between the rows of cars.
The fit was too tight. He bounced off eight cars, damaging the stolen Honda until it stalled.
The man didn’t give up. He ran from the car toward I-5. Officers chased after him. They caught up with him but he continued to fight them off, Krusey said. He was eventually subdued with an electric stun gun.
Police learned the Everett man, 29, was out on bail pending felony charges for an unrelated matter, Krusey said.
The man was expected to be booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of eluding police and possession of a stolen vehicle.
A Marysville woman, a passenger in the car, was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
The Honda had been stolen Sunday in Everett.
