SHELTON — A Mason County sheriff’s deputy totaled his patrol car and suffered a serious cut to his head after crashing on the way to a burglary in the Grapeview area.
Deputy Sheriff Nathan Smith lost control of his vehicle early Sunday, during a period of heavy rain and patches of standing water on the highway.
Smith was hospitalized for his head injury and later released.
Mason County Sheriff Casey Salisbury says the incident should be a warning to everyone during downpours. He says drivers need to be aware of standing water. Even professionally trained drivers fall victim to harsh weather hazards.
The Washington State Patrol investigated the crash but the probe is ongoing.
