WATERBURY, Conn. — Already jailed on federal child sex charges, the mayor has now been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges he enticed a child into a sexual relationship, according to published reports.
It was unclear when the indictment was handed up against Mayor Philip Giordano, but his attorney, Andrew Bowman, confirmed it to the Waterbury Republican-American. The Hartford Courant, citing unidentified sources, also reported the indictment in Saturday’s editions.
Giordano, 38, the three-term mayor and Republican nominee for Senate last year, has been jailed without bail since his arrest July 26 on charges of having a sexual relationship with two girls, cousins ages 9 and 11.
The Courant said the grand jury also indicted the mother of one of Giordano’s alleged victims on conspiracy charges. The woman was accused of providing Giordano sexual access to her daughter and a niece.
Details are expected to remain secret at least until he is arraigned late this coming week.
If convicted of the federal charges, Giordano faces up to 10 years in prison. He also faces state charges.
