EVERETT — Snohomish County’s Public Works Department has promoted a long-time employee to a new role as deputy director and county engineer.
Doug McCormick began overseeing the department’s day-to-day operations this month, as well as long-range planning for building and repairing roads. The selection came after a competitive hiring process.
McCormick’s career of more than three decades includes 27 years with Snohomish County. Since November, he had been the county’s director of transportation and environmental services.
Public Works Director Steve Thomsen called him “the perfect choice for this position” because of his experience with complicated budgets and capital improvement plans.
McCormick said he’s been proud to work on Vision Zero, a partnership with Microsoft, the University of Washington and other organizations to reduce traffic collisions using technology. He also cited his work to make county roads more compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
McCormick has a civil engineering degree from the University of Washington and is a licensed professional engineer.
