SPOKANE — Medical Lake City Administrator Doug Ross is one of the people opposing plans to build a new Spokane County Jail near the city.
He testified at a county Planning Commission hearing Thursday and objected to rezoning 429 acres from rural to industrial to accommodate the jail site.
The Spokesman-Review reports commissioners are collecting more information before making a decision.
The county wants to build a replacement for the Geiger Corrections Center near the Medical Lake interchange on Interstate 90.
Members of the No New Jail Coalition also testified at the hearing and said the new jail is unnecessary because of a drop in bookings.
