EVERETT — Volunteers have planned a meeting Friday evening to showcase their efforts to clean up and monitor an area along Evergreen Way that has become notorious as a hangout for homeless drug addicts.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the woods north of the intersection of Center and Avondale roads, about a block east of Evergreen Way.
The work is being headed up by Robert Smiley and The Hand Up Project, a nonprofit that strives to get people off the streets and to steer them away from drug use.
The site of Friday’s meeting is known as “The Pit.” Smiley hopes to talk to neighbors and nearby property owners to explain efforts to clean up tons of trash and to deter drug users from frequenting the area.
