TACOMA — A memorial service for a Tacoma police officer who was fatally shot while responding to a domestic violence call has been scheduled for Friday.
Tacoma Police say services for Officer Reginald “Jake” Gutierrez will be held at the Tacoma Dome and will be open to the public. A time has not yet been announced.
The 45-year-old officer, who joined the department in 1999, was shot Wednesday night as he went into a Lakewood home to investigate a domestic violence call. He later died in surgery.
Authorities shot and killed 38-year-old Bruce R. Johnson early Thursday after the suspected gunman barricaded himself in a house for hours.
On Saturday, Gutierrez’s body was moved with honors to a funeral home in Lakewood.
