MARYSVILLE — Two hours of winter wonderland awaits you tonight with fun, food, music and a parade of lights during this year’s Merrysville for the Holidays free winter festival.
The festival begins at 6:30 p.m. along State Avenue with the Electric Light Parade, a procession of vehicles and floats adorned with holiday lights. It ends at Comeford Park, 514 Delta Ave., where the Lions community bonfire will warm cold hands.
The water tower lighting ceremony will follow at 7:15 p.m. Then at 7:30 p.m., the Blueberries from Vancouver, British Columbia, will play holiday tunes.
Santa Claus will make a guest appearance in the gazebo, where parents can take pictures of their children with the jolly ol’ soul.
"Merrysville for the Holidays is a true community event, a time to bring people together and celebrate the meaning of the holidays with their friends and neighbors," said Jim Ballew, parks and recreation director.
Although the festival is free, families can help others in need by bringing canned food, money or unwrapped toy donations to volunteers from Operation Marysville Community Christmas, which supports the Marysville Food Bank’s annual holiday basket distribution.
Treats and hot drinks will be available for purchase inside the Ken Baxter Senior Community Center, with the proceeds supporting activities at the center.
The festival is sponsored by the city’s parks and recreation department, Marysville Kiwanis Club and Marysville Lions Club.
