SEATTLE – King County prosecutors on Wednesday charged a Metro bus worker with vehicular homicide in an accident that killed a driver in November.
Gerry Lavigna was moving the bus inside a maintenance facility in south Seattle after refueling and washing it on Nov. 25 when he hit Victoria Chiudina, prosecutors wrote in charging papers.
Lavigna was under the influence of prescription medications and should not have been operating the bus, they wrote, and he also has a vision impairment that contributed to the accident. He was driving an estimated 23 mph to 27 mph in a 15 mph zone, they said.
Chiudina was struck with the left side mirror.
Lavigna was ordered released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
