I’d heard the rumor but I didn’t want to believe it.
But it’s true.
Republican Mike Hope of Snohomish is a candidate for state office, again.
He called today to tell me he’s going to run against Democrat Liz Loomis of Snohomish who was appointed Monday to the state Legislature.
Hope lost to Rep. Hans Dunshee in 2004 and 2006. Our conversation today reminded me of one we had in 2006.
He said his performance with voters improved against Dunshee in 2006 giving him confidence entering the race against the newcomer Loomis.
And, Hope pointed out, in that last election he had the added force of an unpopular president working against him.
“I’m not running against (Pres.) Bush. I’m not running against Hans and that makes it a lot easier,” he said. “I know it’s going to be another tough year for Republicans. It can’t be any worse than 2006.”
I think the shelf life of his tea leaves expired long ago.
