MILL CREEK – A Mill Creek family is reeling after someone scrawled anti-Semitic messages on their vehicles Sunday and today.
Someone first hit the Jewish family’s truck on Sunday. Profanity, a swastika and “I eat Jews” were scribbled on a work truck parked in the family’s driveway. The vandalism left the family shaken, but they believed it was a distasteful juvenile prank that was a one-time incident.
But then family found more vandalism again today – someone scribbled 11 Swastika’s on the family’s 18-year-old daughter’s truck. The family reported it to police and called the FBI.
They now believe the vandalism is more than a juvenile prank.
“I feel like we were targeted because we’re Jewish,” said Anna, whose daughter’s car was vandalized and who asked that their last name not be used. “It’s important to treat it as a hate crime and the community to be aware this is happening in our own backyard.”
Anna said she wants whoever is responsible for the vandalism to understand that what was done is intolerable and unacceptable anywhere.
Mill Creek police say the case is under investigation. They say it’s too early to call the vandalism a hate crime. They have stepped up patrols in the neighborhood. They are asking anyone with information about the crimes to call the police department at 425-745-6175.
