Mill Creek is kicking off its first free recreation and sports fair June 8.
The sports fair is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Heatherwood Middle School, 1419 Trillium Blvd.
The event is planned as a way to connect residents with sports and recreation opportunities in Mill Creek.
The roster for the fair includes a variety of organizations offering programs in football, gymnastics, hockey, volleyball, track and martial arts. More than 40 organizations are signed up.
Ed Lundberg, a lifetime fitness instructor at Heatherwood who coaches basketball and football, came up with the idea of the sports fair.
Geoff Owen, Mill Creek Rotary member, said the event will give the community a chance to find out "what organizations are in the community. What do they cost and what does it take to sign up?"
Many organizations will be prepared to register people for programs at the event, Owen said.
Aside from an informational visit, the fair also has entertaining elements.
The DARE booth will have Mill Creek officers ready to be dunked. Demonstrations will be given by many of the groups participating in the fair, including Wendy School of Dance, Grizzly Wrestling, the Jackson High School cheerleaders, various martial arts groups and Leading Edge Gymnastics.
Organizations interested in participating can still sign up by calling 425-337-9556.
