OLYMPIA — More than one million people in Washington are registered to participate in Thursday’s Great Washington Shakeout earthquake drill.
It’s part of a worldwide campaign to practice “drop, cover and hold” at 10:16 a.m. on 10-16.
Last year about 860,000 people at schools, businesses and organizations were registered on the website of the sponsoring agencies.
Washington is hit by hundreds of earthquakes a year. Most are too small to be felt. But, experts say the “big one” could hit at any time with devastating injuries and damage.
