Minor arrested in Royal City police shooting

SOAP LAKE — A 19-year-old man and a juvenile male were arrested this past week and a third person is sought in Grant County for allegedly firing shots at a Royal City police officer during a vehicle pursuit.

The Columbia Basin Herald reported that police arrested 19-year-old Jose Nieves and the juvenile on Tuesday.

Police said the arrests came a day after a routine vehicle stop turned into a high-speed chase through Grant County.

Soap Lake police Chief Jim Dorris said shots were fired at an office from a Honda vehicle during the chase. The Honda was found abandoned the next day.

Nieves is awaiting additional charges. No age was released for the minor.
