A shallow 3.4 magnitude earthquake sent a brief jolt through rural Snohomish County on Monday morning.
The quake occurred at 11:40 a.m. about 11 miles south of Darrington and seven miles east of Verlot. The location is believed to be on part of the South Whidbey Island fault, said Bill Steele, spokesman for the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network at the University of Washington.
“If it was right under your house, it felt like a car just banged into your house,” Steele said.
