SKYKOMISH — An 87-year-old Lake Chelan woman who had been missing for a day was found late Monday night near Skykomish in Snohomish County by two Burlington Northern railroad workers.
Norma Williams had been staying with her son in Brier for the holiday when she disappeared in her car on Sunday.
Her son and his family spent Christmas Eve driving around, looking for her. A friend went up in a helicopter to aid in the search, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Around 10:45 p.m. Monday, the railroad workers spotted Williams on the side of U.S. 2 and stopped to help. She reportedly told them she needed gas.
However, they recognized her from the news coverage of her disappearance and contacted the State Patrol.
Trooper John Axtman drove Williams to the Washington State Patrol office in Monroe, where she reunited with her family just after midnight on Christmas.
