SAN FRANCISCO — A wilderness adventure company says nine teenagers and two adults who were missing in the central Sierra Nevada have been found safe.
Brad Mushovic, executive director of Outward Bound’s wilderness programs, said the missing group called the organization after hiking to a nearby store.
They turned up safe just hours after Fresno County Sheriff’s officials began searching for them. Authorities say they had failed to meet up with a third guide as planned Saturday during their two-week backpacking and rock climbing trip.
Mushovic says the group told him this afternoon that they were awaiting searchers at the Florence Lake Store, just north of where they went missing.
