SILVANA — Checkers was accustomed to being on the seeking side of searches, including the Oso mudslide.
That changed this week when she went missing.
On Saturday, the Snohomish County Volunteer Search and Rescue dog was found two days after being reported missing.
A Silvana woman saw news reports and social media postings about the lost retriever and realized she had seen Checkers in her swimming pool Friday morning.
Her husband went outside Saturday morning and called for Checkers, who came out from the woods and waited with them for her handler, Samuel Peterson, to retrieve her.
They were reunited around 9 a.m.
Other than a sore paw, Checkers was not hurt, said Snohomish County sheriff’s Lt. Steve Dittoe.
