MONROE — A man carrying a 6-year-old on the handlebars of a bicycle was hurt when the bike was struck by a car while in a crosswalk Tuesday morning. The child was not injured.
The man, 32, was taken to Valley General Hospital with minor injuries, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said. The boy was wearing a bicycle helmet; his father was not.
About 9:40 a.m., a car headed northbound on 179th Avenue SE attempting to turn right onto U.S. 2, she said. The driver hit the bike in the crosswalk.
Police are investigating possible charges against the driver, a Monroe man, 42, Willis said.
Willis cautioned drivers and cyclists to use caution and to carry children in child seats only.
“Children should never be riding on the handle bars of a bicycle,” Willis said. “It was fortunate that (the boy) was not injured in this collision.”
