MONROE — Investigators believe a fire that severely damaged an apartment in Monroe on Friday may have been intentionally set, Monroe Police Department spokeswoman Debbie Willis said,
A Monroe police officer on foot patrol saw smoke coming from a window at the Hill Street Apartments about 12:42 p.m. in the 100 block of W. Hill Street. Firefighters from Monroe and Snohomish County Fire District 7 responded and put out a fire that was contained to a single unit, Willis said.
Nobody was injured. The rest of the complex was evacuated for safety precautions.
Investigators believe the blaze was intentionally set because of something firefighters saw inside, Willis said.
Police are interviewing witnesses who may have been in the area when the fire started, Willis said. No one had been taken into custody as of Friday afternoon, she said.
Monroe police are investigating the incident.
