MONROE — A Monroe Correctional Complex inmate was charged Friday with custodial assault and unlawful imprisonment in connection with a February attack on a counselor at the prison.
Snohomish County prosecutors allege that Darrel Curtis Holm, 45, put his arm around the neck of a mental health counselor and held onto her for several minutes. The attack reportedly took place Feb. 16 in the counselor’s office in the prison’s Special Offender Unit.
Holm was due for release in December and said he wanted to take the counselor hostage to get another felony, according to an affidavit filed in Snohomish County Superior Court.
Other corrections workers were able to break the counselor free and restrain Holm. The counselor was not seriously injured.
Holm has felony convictions for robbery, attempted robbery and burglary in Snohomish and King counties.
