EVERETT — A Monroe man accused of kidnapping and threatening to kill his two children had his first appearance Monday in the Snohomish County District Court Everett Division before Court Commissioner Jennifer Millett.
Around 9:30 p.m. Friday, Monroe police responded to reports of the 45-year-old attempting to take a vehicle belonging to the mother of the children on Lewis Street, court documents said. The suspect allegedly drove onto the median in an attempt to run over the victim, who is pregnant, while fleeing the scene with the 7-year-old and 10-month-old.
The suspect was allegedly texting her continuously and told her she would never see her children again and that “the kids are dead if she kept (expletive) with him,” court documents said. The victim told police the suspect had threatened to kill her and told her he was going to be like Travis Decker — a man accused of killing his three daughters earlier this year.
Around 3:47 a.m. Saturday, the Monroe Police Department booked the suspect into Snohomish County Jail for two counts of first-degree kidnapping domestic violence, threat to kill and second-degree assault domestic violence.
On Monday, Millett said she finds probable cause for the two counts of kidnapping, assault and felony harassment.
“In this case, the allegations before the court are extremely serious,” Millett said, citing a history of domestic violence between the suspect and the victim “that goes all the way back to 2017 with other charges.”
Millett maintained the previously set bail of $200,000.
