EVERETT — A Monroe man is charged with severely beating a woman in public in Everett, just after she had a miscarriage on the same day.
Two witnesses called police Aug. 10, when they saw a 6-foot-2, 220-pound man beating the woman in a car, with a child in the back seat.
The woman later told police that her ex-boyfriend, 35, pulled her out of the vehicle by her feet, so that she fell onto her tailbone on the concrete. He then punched her over and over in the stomach, according to the charges. She’s under 5 feet tall.
No explanation for the attack is given in charges filed Thursday.
The woman, 38, had a miscarriage earlier that day. Her pain was so severe she couldn’t escape. Medical records confirmed the miscarried pregnancy, and that she had fractures in her lower body, according to the charges. Her son, age 8, described the beating to police. The boy told an officer that the man ran away.
Two months later, Marysville police met a man who used the name “Clarence” on OfferUp, a site where people sell used goods. The man, whose real name is not close to Clarence, was selling security cameras that police suspected were stolen, charging papers say.
He said he’d arrive in a BMW X5, at an Albertsons.
Police determined the vehicle was occupied by the same man, woman and child from the assault in August. The man refused to give his name, but eventually admitted he had warrants out for his arrest.
Marysville police booked him into the Snohomish County Jail.
On the floorboard of the BMW, officers reportedly found a 3½-gram ball of what appeared to be heroin. Security cameras were in the vehicle, too, in boxes. Earlier this month the man was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, for the third time in 2018.
Prosecutors filed second-degree assault charges this week. In the past the man has been convicted of felony assault, attempting to elude police, retail theft and drug possession.
At least 52 times in his life, he has failed to show up to court hearings. He remained in jail Friday.
