A Monroe man was killed in a one-car crash Thursday afternoon after being ejected through his Camaro’s T-top when it rolled over.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said alcohol was a factor in the accident, which happened in the 13700 block of Yeager Road just outside Monroe.
David Ellis, 45, died at the accident scene of head trauma shortly before 6 p.m., according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen and the county medical examiner’s office.
His passenger, a 44-year-old woman from Monroe, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and was released, a nursing supervisor said Friday.
Witnesses said they saw the 1983 Camaro traveling at high speed before it flipped, Jorgensen said.
Neither of the accident victims was wearing a seat belt, she said.
Everett
Apartment fire: Residents briefly evacuated an Everett apartment complex Friday morning after a fire was discovered in a living room of one of the units.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire at the Olympic View Apartments on Wood Place from spreading to other apartments, said Ron Larsen, an Everett Fire Department battalion chief.
The occupant of the apartment discovered a small fire in the corner of his living room shortly before 8 a.m. After trying unsuccessfully to put it out, he pulled a fire alarm on his way out of the building, Larsen said.
Many people in the 48-unit complex evacuated, Larsen said. The 40 firefighters who responded to the call quickly knocked down the fire just as it was about to spread to an upstairs apartment, Larsen said.
Investigators were still looking into the cause of the fire, but had determined it was not arson, Larsen said.
