MONROE — One of the Monroe police officers who fatally shot a fugitive here June 24 has been placed on paid leave, but not because of his role in the shooting, officials said Friday.
Officer Bruce Sinnott is on leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation, Monroe police Cmdr. Jan O’Neil said.
Department officials declined to say why Sinnott is under investigation, only that the probe is not connected to the police raid that left fugitive Harold McCord Jr. dead. Sinnott, 38, was one of eight officers who entered the Monroe apartment where McCord was hiding. He was one of three who shot McCord.
The Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing an investigation of the shooting conducted by a special team of detectives.
Monroe investigators have completed their probe into the allegations against Sinnott, O’Neil said. Union officials asked to review the report prior to a final decision being made by Monroe Chief Tim Quenzer, he said. Quenzer will decide if Sinnott will be disciplined.
The chief isn’t expected to make a decision until the week of Oct. 20, O’Neil said.
Sinnott and his wife were injured during a domestic dispute Aug. 19 at the couple’s Snohomish home. His wife was charged with fourth-degree assault for allegedly punching him and throwing a cordless phone and a dumbbell at Sinnott, according to an investigation conducted by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The items struck him in the chest and hip. She alleged that he grabbed her by her wrists and threw her on the floor, the report says. Deputies observed that her left wrist was swollen and that she had bruises on her arm.
Sinnott could not be reached for comment.
