MONROE — Grown-ups are supposed to set a good example for children.
On Wednesday, a Monroe woman apparently did just the opposite.
Enraged that a little girl would bump into her car, the woman, 54, screamed at the girl and then kicked her, Monroe police spokeswoman Debbie Willis said.
“The girl cried and said it hurt,” Willis said.
The 6-year-old didn’t require medical treatment and the car wasn’t damaged, she said.
The incident took place about 5 p.m. outside the Monroe Boys &Girls Club in the 200 block of Sky River Parkway, Willis said.
A group of 21 children were lined up outside the club.
A boy dropped a football and in his effort to retrieve it, he bumped into the girl, who fell into the woman’s car, Willis said.
That’s when the woman got out of car, yelling at the girl.
“One of the adult employees attempted to intervene,” Willis said.
The woman ignored the other adult and kicked the girl.
Club employees took the child inside and called 911. The girl’s parents later told police she suffers from a balance problem.
The woman was arrested and booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of third-degree assault of a child. She was released after posting bond.
