Monument cleanup needs volunteers

Volunteers are needed today to help clean up the Point Elliott Treaty Monument and the grounds of Rosehill Community Center, 304 Lincoln St. in Mukilteo.

Come to the center at 10 a.m. to pitch in. The cleanup will last until noon.

The monument commemorates the signing of the 1855 treaty that ceded Indian land to the United States from Point Pully to Canada. The monument is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

On Monday, Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon and Tulalip Tribes Chairman Stan Jones Sr. will sign a “memorandum of understanding” at the monument that will commit them to greater cooperation on social, economic, health and educational matters.
