The pace of candidate filings slowed Wednesday, with most of the activity involving races for state legislative offices.
Veteran state Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, D-Bothell, filed to run for a fourth term in the 1st District representing southern Snohomish County and northeast King County.
In the same district, Democrat Mark Ericks of Bothell filed to run for the state House of Representatives. He hopes to succeed Rep. Jeanne Edwards, D-Bothell, who is retiring.
In the 32nd District, incumbent state representatives Maralyn Chase, D-Edmonds, and Ruth Kagi, D-Lake Forest Park, each filed for re-election. Chase will be seeking a third term and Kagi a fourth.
Another incumbent, Rep. Brian Sullivan, D-Mukilteo, filed to run for a third term.
In the meantime, Republican Mike Hope of Snohomish filed to run in the 44th District against veteran Rep. Hans Dunshee, D-Snohomish.
Meanwhile, Randy Eastwood, a Republican from Kirkland, filed to run for Congress. He is challenging incumbent Rep. Jay Inslee, D-Wash.
Eastwood, 35, is married and works as a real estate agent. In campaign materials, he calls Inslee a liberal “political insider who does not represent the voice of the people.” He vows to return residents’ “voice to the People’s House.”
Friday is the deadline for hopefuls to turn in their paperwork and pay a fee to ensure that they appear on the Sept. 14 primary ballot.
