TACOMA — A Pierce County woman has been sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison in connection to her 2-year-old son’s methamphetamine overdose.
The News Tribune reported that Alyia Iverson, 27, was sentenced Friday for manslaughter after pleading guilty.
Iverson was originally charged in in July 2014 after her son, Nathan, died from drinking methamphetamine-laced water from his mother’s bong in 2012.
Prosecutors said Nathan had ingested enough methamphetamine to kill an adult before his mother noticed he wasn’t breathing nearly two hours later.
Iverson’s attorney said she is a long-term addict and that she accepts responsibility for her actions.
