BEIJING – Chinese authorities have paid “hardship” compensation to the mother of a 15-year-old boy beaten to death by police during the government crackdown on pro-democracy protests in 1989, an activist said Sunday.
Tang Deying is to receive the equivalent of $8,745 in “hardship assistance” for the beating death of her son, Zhou Guocong, while he was in police custody on June 6, 1989, activist Huang Qi said.
