SEATTLE — Two Mount Vernon-area interpreters have been charged with overbilling the state of Washington by thousands of dollars for mileage costs.
In Thurston County Superior Court on Tuesday, Gloria Mendoza Garcia, 46, and her daughter, Gloria Del Rocio Gonzalez, 31, each pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree theft.
The women work as interpreters for Spanish-speaking injured workers at medical appointments. The state Department of Labor and Industries pays for interpretation and mileage driven by interpreters as part of worker injury claims.
Charging papers allege Mendoza Garcia fraudulently received more than $28,000 in mileage reimbursement. Her daughter is accused of fraudulently receiving more than $16,000.
