MARYSVILLE — A 26-year-old woman died in a one-car accident on I-5 north of Marysville Tuesday afternoon, after she swerved to avoid debris in the road and the car flipped over, according the Washington State Patrol.
Alma D. Serrano of Mount Vernon died at the scene of the accident reported shortly before 4 p.m. The 27-year-old driver, Suzanne Paniagua of Bellingham, was taken to Cascade Hospital with knee and neck injuries, according to the State Patrol. The 1989 Ford Escort was totaled.
The crash happened after the southbound car dodged toward the median to avoid a large piece of metal in a lane, traveled into the grass, struck a cable guard rail and rolled over, according to the State Patrol.
