MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A 13-year-old Mountlake Terrace boy was subdued by police Friday morning after he went into Cedar Way Elementary waving a stick and threatening to stab himself with scissors.
The boy entered the school around 8:30 a.m. He’d previously been a student there, Mountlake Terrace Assistant Police Chief Pete Caw said.
School officials tried to calm the boy down and police were called.
Officers pushed the boy to the ground and placed him in handcuffs, Caw said. An electric stun gun was threatened but not used. The boy was taken to Stevens Hospital for evaluation. No one was injured.
“Clearly, this was a traumatic thing for many who witnessed it and we worked quickly to provide support to our students and staff,” school principal Hawkins Cramer said in a letter sent home to parents.
Counselors were available for students who wanted to talk about what they saw.
