MUKILTEO — The City Council on Monday made preservationists very happy and did it without spending city money.
The council agreed to buy a 16-acre section of Japanese Gulch, a 175-acre forested ravine, from Washington Federal for $980,000. All money for the purchase came from the state’s capital fund, with help from state Sen. Paull Shin, D-Edmonds, Mayor Joe Marine said.
With the purchase, the city has now put 36 acres of the gulch into public hands.
